Diane Johnston - South Texas Distance
Swimmer
Diane started competing in swimming at age 6.
She swam in Honolulu for 11 years, where she was an accomplished
pool swimmer as well as open water swimmer, completing the 2.5 mile
Waikiki Rough Water swim every year from age 8 - 17.
In 1984, she qualified to be member of the Pre-Olympic
Training camp in Honolulu, HI. Later that same year, she qualified for
US Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, IN. In 1985, she represented the
US National team at the Arena Festival in Bonn, West Germany and in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 1986 she represented the US National Team at the
Pan Pacific Games in Kobe, Japan and at the US Open in Austin, Tx.
She then earned a full swimming scholarship to UT in Austin,
Tx.
In 1988 she qualified for US Olympic Trials in
Austin, TX. Diane's life-time best 1500 is 16:29.
She has been training this spring for the USMS
Nationals in her hometown, Honolulu, HI. We wish you the best at
